They may have to share the stage with Madonna, but Gorillaz’s first live performance on network US television will be during the Grammy Awards next week.
Madonna is set to perform a duet with animated band the Gorillaz at the Grammy Awards this month.
The pop diva agreed to open the ceremony with the cartoon group because she’s a huge fan of their music.
…
Madonna’s publicist Liz Rosenberg said: “Madonna really likes them, and they like Madonna. They are going to do something together.”
Rosenberg remained tight-lipped about what the star would perform at the February 8 event, but added: “It’s going to be stupendous. Another Madonna showstopper.”
The Gorillaz have already performed live during the MTV Europe Music Awards, and played their entire Demon Days album live on stage at the Manchester Opera House last November — now that performance is what you would call a showstopper.

After winning Best Group at the MTV Europe Music Awards, Gorillaz took the stage and performed “Feel Good Inc” … live!
In addition to that performance, the group also played their entire Demon Days record live at the Manchester Opera House in London from November 1-5. According to creator Damon Albarn,
“We’re doing something that has never been done before where we’re getting 3-D animation on stage, with people, so we’re in the middle of a technical, logistical nightmare with that. And it might, or might not work. If it works it’s going to be very magic.”
If the performace during the MTV Europe Music Awards was any indication, I have a feeling that the Manchester shows were in fact magic.

The Gorillaz will be going on a worldwide tour, but not until 2007. The Sun reports that “Fans will get a chance to see Damon Albarn’s creations on stage as giant 3D holograms.”
Did they say giant 3D holograms?! This I have got to see.
