Not content with simply offering Gmail via a mobile friendly website, Google is now bringing your mail to your cell phone natively. This new Java app, which works with most Java enabled cell phones equipped with a data plan, was quietly released today. The company claims that their latest offering will close the gap between the classic way people get e-mail — sitting at a computer — and the slow-as-molasses reality of receiving e-mail on cell phones. But is it really faster?

T-Mobile celebrated the launch of their new limited edition Sidekick 3 with a celebrity filled party last night, and just as before the little handheld drew the ladies.
Other than the customized paint jobs by designers Lifted Research Group and Diane von Furstenburg, and the to be expected bump in price, there’s nothing particularly new about these limited edition Sidekicks. These fancy new handhelds will be made available in limited quantities at select T-Mobile retail stores and online beginning Oct. 30.
But enough of that, you really want to see the ladies. There are 25 pictures of Amber Tamblyn, Christy Carlson Romano, Lindsay Lohan, Mischa Barton and Vida Guerra after the jump, so…
A mother from Central Florida took pictures of her daughter’s braces using her camera phone and sent them off to friends and family. All of the pictures were well received, except by the woman’s brother. Upon receiving notification of the images, the brother logged into the Cingular website, as he had done many times in the past, to view them. To his surprise he was treated to porn — Pinocchio [was] doing something that I don’t think anybody has seen in a storybook.
Only in Florida…
From BlackBerry to CrackBerry to HackBerry. Computer consultant Jesse D’Aguanno has developed a program which can allow attackers to exploit the trusted connection between a BlackBerry and a company’s internal server. Dubbed BBProxy, the program D’Aguanno wrote creates an encrypted data tunnel between the handheld device and internal server which can be very difficult to detect using traditional intrusion detection systems. The program must be loaded onto the BlackBerry either willingly or as a Trojan horse via email (assuming that someone will readily pull down and install an unknown attached program).
D’Aguanno, who has met with Research in Motion about the issue, said the company posted two new documents on its website this week in anticipation of his presentation at the DefCon hacker convention in Las Vegas.
And just like that, Google Mobile Maps gives you real-time traffic information.
For those who: a) don’t have a
built-in decent web browser on their phone to access the other websites that offer real-time traffic updates, b) don’t want to pony up the cash for a GPS with traffic information, or c) simply love Google too much to opt for anything else, Google has released an update to their Google Mobile Maps application. On top of being much faster than the previous release, this latest version also offers real-time traffic updates and allows you to mark “favorite” locations. Upgrade away!
BlackBerry users (at least those with the 8700g) take note: if you already have a previous version of Google Maps installed, you should manually delete it. Otherwise you will be left with both versions on your handheld with no way to delete the previous version short of re-initializing your handheld — trust me, I learned the hard way…
It would seem as though some Sidekick 3 enthusiasts have determined that the magnet used to secure the flip screen is rather powerful — powerful enough to fully suspend a regular table knife when the screen is opened. When the screen is closed, they found that the magnet was still strong enough to suspend a fork.
This finding of course begged the question — what would this magnet do to a credit card? Apparently after briefly exposing a credit card to the closed Sidekick 3 it was determined that the magnetic strip on the card was completely erased. Credibility aside, adding at the bottom of the report that all users of the Sidekick 3 should ditch them and get a Treo is a bit suspect.
We’re such a fan of Lauren Conrad and The Hills that we thought we’d give Lauren her own little post from the T-Mobile Sidekick 3 party. More pictures of Lauren (and Jason, unfortunately) are below, after the jump.

Samsung takes a note from Nicole Richie believing that slim is in. They have just unveiled three new cell phones, the Ultra Edition 6.9, 9.9, and 12.9. The three phones are named after their side profile and form factor, 6.9mm candy bar, 9.9mm slider, and 12.9mm clamshell. At 6.9mm, their candy bar phone is now the slimmest available.
Samsung believes that these new phones move beyond the limitations inherent in slim phones to embody the perfect combination of comfort, simplicity and sophistication to let users do more with less. Nicole would be so proud … it might be enough for her to think twice about toting around that Sidekick of hers — which probably weighs twice as much as she does (and is definitely fatter than she is).
