Wiki or not

Wiki gang sign

Building off the Blogger and MySpace models (to name a few), domain name speculator John Gotts hopes his wiki.com venture will prove profitable. Purchased three weeks ago for a staggering $2.8 million, Gotts launched his new site over the weekend — offering up none other than free wikis. Like similar sites before it, anyone can register for a wiki and accompanying sub-domain. The only requirement is that users must allow others to add and edit the content. In its first day live, visitors have been snapping up subdomains with topical words, like soccer.wiki.com, or common first names.

Whether or not the world really needs another do-it-yourself site remains to be seen. Gotts has allowed the site 6-months to prove itself.
