What does it take for a video to go viral? A couple of Entertainment Weekly reporters tried to find out by creating their own video and reporting on their progress.
After receiving advice and hints from people at CollegeHumor, MySpace, Google Video, and AOL Video, as well as comedian Anthony King and a team of Time, Inc lawyers, the two EW reporters went about to produce a short video of themselves smashing a mannequin they adoringly named Becca Kelly.
Despite all of their efforts, to date, the video has been viewed 7,700 times on YouTube and has been called a failure. Perhaps it will go viral now…

After Bill Gates admits to watching content on YouTube during a WSJ interview he is asked, “But those were stolen, correct?” To which he responds with his quote of the day, Stolen’s a strong word. It’s copyrighted content that the owner wasn’t paid for. So yes.

Carl’s Junior and their Six-Dollar Burger have nothing on Florida’s Boca Raton Resort and Club where they just premiered their jaw dropping $100 burger.
Described as Heaven on a bun, the patty is 5 1/2 inches across and 2 1/2 inches thick and is made from American prime beef, Japanese Kobe and Argentine cattle. Complete with organic greens, exotic mushrooms and tomotoes, the burger will set you back $124.50 — and that doesn’t even include fries and a Coke.

Samsung takes a note from Nicole Richie believing that slim is in. They have just unveiled three new cell phones, the Ultra Edition 6.9, 9.9, and 12.9. The three phones are named after their side profile and form factor, 6.9mm candy bar, 9.9mm slider, and 12.9mm clamshell. At 6.9mm, their candy bar phone is now the slimmest available.
Samsung believes that these new phones move beyond the limitations inherent in slim phones to embody the perfect combination of comfort, simplicity and sophistication to let users do more with less. Nicole would be so proud … it might be enough for her to think twice about toting around that Sidekick of hers — which probably weighs twice as much as she does (and is definitely fatter than she is).

Two weeks ago Evan Guttman’s plight to recover his friend’s stolen Sidekick took the web by storm. After numerous headaches with the NYPD, countless telephone calls and interviews, thousands of emails, clashes with the perpetrators, and millions of visitors to his website, Guttman is glad to report that the story has a happy ending.
Sasha, the girl who found “bought” the Sidekick off of a friend cab driver guy in the subway, was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property in the fifth degree, a misdemeanor.
If you find something, chances are that someone else is missing it. Do the right thing and return it — or you just might find yourself, your family, and your friends the object of ridicule by millions of people.

As the population of sites like MySpace and Facebook continue to grow at what seems to be an exponential rate, it’s only natural that some people a few fries short of a happy meal find their way into the fold. It’s also only natural that those with less than ideal intentions also find their way into the fold to try and prey on those people.
Enter 20-year-old Hunter College student Elvin Chaung. Chaung hopped onto Facebook and managed to con dozens of co-eds into sending him racy and nude pictures of themselves. He would IM the girls posing as an old friend or friend-of-a-friend and say he was in big trouble with his photo or art professor and desperately needed pictures e-mailed to him. Once he obtained a regular picture, he would push for a bikini or lingerie shot and eventually a nude photo. According to investigators this tactic worked 10% of the time. And honestly, for a ploy this stupid, that’s 10% too many.
