Satellite radio on your cell phone

You’ve got music … well, unofficially. While XM and Sirius continue to slowly ponder their offering of music on cell phones (with Sirius seemingly leading the way with their partnership with Sprint), fans have taken matters into their own hands.

Grass-roots software and web developers have found ways to tap into XM Satellite Radio Holdings’ and Sirius Satellite Radio’s websites to stream music channels onto Windows-powered smartphones and other devices.

“We don’t want to get into any trouble,” said Wayne, the developer of PocketXM Radio, who declined to give his full name for fear of retribution. He said his software, subsequently renamed Pocket Satellite Radio, is no longer for sale.

“I have not been contacted. I do not wish to be contacted by XM,” said Younes Oughla, who created the website Mini XM over four weekends in his home office in West New York, New Jersey.

“I make sure that people know I’m not affiliated with XM to avoid confusion,” Oughla said, pointing to a disclaimer on his site.
