Music publishers follow suit
Permalink | December 9th, 2005The Music Publishers’ Association (MPA) has decided to follow in the footsteps of the RIAA and will begin launching an agressive campaign against web sites that post free sheet music, song scores and lyrics.
MPA president Lauren Keiser said he wanted site owners to be jailed.
He said unlicensed guitar tabs and song scores were widely available on the internet but were “completely illegal”.
Mr Keiser said he did not just want to shut websites and impose fines, saying if authorities can “throw in some jail time I think we’ll be a little more effective”.
Going to jail for posting song lyrics online, that’s just brilliant. Seriously, copyright is way out of control. People Corporate America needs to evolve and get with the program.
